  • Baxter's Bridge

During a routine visit to Baxter's Bridge on Monday, we observed that the pointing doors were approximately 95% closed. This was unexpected given the current low water levels in Mill Dam Dyke.

Our Field Team attended the site on Tuesday to investigate. They confirmed that the doors were able to operate freely and showed no signs of damage or obstruction. The gates were subsequently left in the open position.

While the reason for the doors being closed remains unclear, the Field Team will continue to monitor them as part of their monthly operational checks to ensure functionality and prevent recurrence.

  • Tree work complete on fallen tree!

The fallen tree at Mill Dam Dyke, which came down during Storm Amy, has now been cleared.

The field team promptly responded and removed all tree debris from the site, ensuring the channel is fully clear to maintain effective water conveyance.

  • Tree Removal Following Storm Amy

The Gainsborough Field Team were on site today to remove a tree that had fallen onto the embankment of Mill Dam Dyke during Storm Amy.

The incident was reported on Saturday shortly after the tree came down. The duty incident team assessed the site and confirmed there was no immediate flood risk, allowing the removal to be scheduled during normal weekday working hours.

The tree has now been partly removed, the embankment and road are clear. The remainder of the tree will be removed this week. This follows on from recent works carried out by contractors on our behalf, helping to maintain the channel’s capacity and reduce flood risk.
