Bassetlaw District Flooding Engagement

Bassetlaw has experienced repeated flooding in recent years, and we understand how important it is to keep our communities informed and involved.

To support this, we’ve been holding drop-in sessions at libraries in Retford and Worksop, giving residents a chance to speak directly with us, ask questions, and share concerns. We will continue running these sessions — but we want to make them as helpful and relevant as possible.

  • Will anything ever be done about the choke point under Bridge Street in Worksop?

Stephen Sullivan asked 3 months ago

The culvert under Bridge Street restricts the flow of water through the town centre. It is likely that this culvert, along with multiple other culverts and bridges throughout the town, contributes to water backing up and flooding during high flow events. At this moment in time, it is not possible to remove the culvert due to the presence of the commercial units and road which are situated directly over the top of the culvert. Dredging to create a deeper channel at this location is not viable due to this not being an efficient or effective way to manage flood risk in the area. You can find out more about the work we are currently doing to manage flooding in Worksop by navigating to the right-hand side of the webpage.
