What is the Pevensey Bay to Eastbourne Coastal Management Scheme?
Over 18,000 properties are at risk from coastal flooding within the Pevensey Bay and Eastbourne area. The scheme is exploring how best to manage this risk now and in the future, adapting to rising sea levels and changing coastal conditions.
This short video gives an overview of the Pevensey Bay to Eastbourne Coastal Management Scheme and explains why the work is needed.
Reducing coastal flood and erosion risk across the area requires coordinated action. The task is complex, but we have ambitious plans to strengthen resilience, support local communities and protect important infrastructure.
Alongside improving flood and erosion management, we want the scheme to deliver wider benefits for people, place and the environment. This includes working collaboratively with partners and local communities to make sure the coastline is managed in a way that reflects local needs and long‑term priorities.
Our partners include the Environment Agency, Eastbourne Borough Council, JBA Consulting, VolkerStevin, East Sussex County Council, Rother District Council, and Wealden District Council.
