Ten Foot Bridge
Ten Foot Bridge
Ten Foot Bridge

Ten Foot bridge crosses the River Thames between Rushey and Shifford locks near Buckland village in Faringdon.
Keeping the public safe is one of our highest priorities and therefore following a structural inspection regrettably closed the bridge in March 2024 due to numerous structural and safety concerns.
Following the initial bridge inspection, a follow-up specialist survey of the bridge has been completed to fully understand the structural issues associated with the bridge.
Bat boxes situated on the bridge have been inspected and removed under the supervision of an experienced Environment Agency ecologist. When the bridge refurbishment work is complete, we will be re-installing new bat boxes to support this protected species.

Background
The necessary bridge repairs are being planned as part of a wider programme of competing priorities across the non-tidal Thames associated with our Navigation infrastructure. We are currently progressing further environmental surveys and the outline design of any bridge strengthening work.
Current progress
Our in-house field delivery team has cleaned the bridge structure to remove lichen, moss and algae. This has enabled us to inspect the underside of the bridge, which will help determine the overall work required to strengthen the bridge. This information will be shared in future updates on this page.
We will share more information once it has been as it becomes available on this page and are grateful to all our customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
