What area does this scheme cover?
The scheme will cover approximately 900 metres of coastal frontage from the large concrete Hope Groyne at the northern end of the Shanklin Esplanade to Shanklin Chine wooded coastal ravine and nature reserve in the south, shown on the map below.

This area was chosen as a priority following a 2018 study by the Isle of Wight Council, which identified where repairs were most urgently needed.
The Environment Agency is also working on other flood protection schemes nearby, including in Yaverland and Ventnor.
