Final Designs Shared and Construction Discussions Underway! Coastal Community Group Meeting No.3

On 13th August 2026, we held our third Sandown Bay Coastal Community Group meeting, bringing together residents, businesses, councillors and community representatives to discuss progress on the Shanklin Coastal Defence Scheme.
The meeting marked an important milestone for the project, with the team presenting the final engineering designs. Following nearly six years of partnership working between the Environment Agency and Isle of Wight Council, members were shown how the scheme will refurbish the existing coastal defences and extend their life for a further 50 years. These works are critical to safeguarding the Esplanade and helping to protect homes, businesses and infrastructure from coastal erosion and flooding.
Members also took part in an interactive construction workshop, sharing ideas on how disruption could be minimised and opportunities maximised during the works. The feedback received will be considered by the project team and will help inform both construction planning and the projects communication strategy as work continues towards construction.
