    Biodiversity and Net Gain

    We are continuing with our work to secure the schemes target of 20% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). BNG is a requirement for all development to leave the natural environment in a measurably better state than it was before. We must put in place legal agreements to ensure that the environmental enhancements we create will be managed and monitored for 30 years. BNG became a requirement of the planning application process in 2024 new and can be complex.  However we are making good progress: 

    • We have appointed solicitors to advise on legal structure and draft agreements 
    • We continue to work with landowners and their professional advisors, to agree terms for the legal agreements that will secure the necessary rights for Biodiversity Net Gain. More detail about our BNG proposals can be found in The proposed flood scheme
