Pevensey beach management update (socials) - 7 October

We’ve started the season with all systems go!

The Hastings recycle operation is currently underway. It will pause briefly next week while we carry out the first Eastbourne bypass of the season. Once complete, the Hastings bypass will resume and continue until the end of October.

This Eastbourne Bypass we’ll be trialling electric plant and vehicles on the frontage, including an electric excavator, electric tippers, and other vehicles. The trial will help us assess whether electric machinery can perform effectively in the challenging beach environment and support a more sustainable approach to future beach management.

As part of the trial, there may be drone filming taking place and an increase in visitors to the area while the trial is underway.

During the bypass operation, surplus material will be removed from the rock spur at White Point and, if time allows, from the outer harbour where sediment has accumulated over the summer. This material will be transported to Sovereign Harbour and redistributed along the frontage as part of ongoing beach management works.

The Sospan Dau has returned for another week and will continue recharging the frontage at Pevensey intermittently until the end of November.

Please take care around work areas, follow signs and beach marshal instructions, and keep dogs on leads near machinery. Thank you for your support while these important works are carried out to help maintain and protect our coastline.
