Ground investigations - July
You may notice some activity on the beach between Holywell in Eastbourne and Cooden Beach in Bexhill over the coming weeks.
Ground investigation works are now underway as part of the multi-million-pound Pevensey and Eastbourne Coast Management Scheme.
Teams are drilling, sampling and carrying out small excavations at locations along the 15km coastline to assess ground conditions, check the structural integrity of groynes and sample beach sediment.
This essential work will shape the design of new flood defences planned between 2027-2037, a £100m+ investment in protecting homes, businesses and the natural environment along this stretch of the southeast coast.
All seafront paths, beaches and local businesses will remain open as normal. Some noise from machinery is expected during working hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30am–5:30pm), but disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Works are expected to continue until the end of August 2026.
