Beach update: The Hastings shingle trial completes today - 8 May
Around 7,000 cubic metres of shingle has now been recycled back along the coast to Sovereign Harbour!
This work helps both areas:
Reduces the build-up of shingle in Hastings, improving access for the RNLI and local fishing boats
Returns material to where it naturally belongs, helping to maintain beach levels and reduce flood risk along our frontage
By moving shingle already within the system, we’re working with natural coastal processes. This approach may reduce reliance on seabed dredging, helping to lower the environmental impact compared to traditional methods.
Final shaping of the beach will continue into next week, with all plant leaving site by 15 May for the summer period.
Thank you for your patience while these works have taken place.
Thank you for your contribution!
