This displays a portion of the material removed from the debris screen on Melton Brook during the January 2025 flood event. We have numerous debris screens in Leicester. All are located in front of culverted sections of channel, and function to catch debris washing down the channel, preventing blockages from occurring inside the culverts. If a culvert were to become blocked during a flood event it would be impossible to clear the blockage and water would back up, causing considerable flooding. During potential flooding events our Field Teams work in shifts to clear debris screens and perform other vital flood risk management tasks 24 hours a day. To report a considerable build up of material on a debris screen call our incident hotline on - 0800 80 70 60.
