Establishing Limitations of design: Water efficiency

The team has now completed the technical phase of our work, which reviewed the effectiveness of Building Regulations (Part G) in delivering water efficiency in new homes. The project examined the gap between predicted and actual water consumption and developed a methodology and guidance for monitoring post-occupancy water use.

Through the analysis of planning applications and engagement with key stakeholders, we developed a Post-Occupancy Water Consumption Tool to help Local Authorities monitor new homes compliance with Part G water efficiency standards.

We are currently preparing a non-technical summary and a set of key messages to support wider understanding of the projects learning and encourage uptake of the tool. Once finalised, these alongside the final project report and the Post-Occupancy Water Consumption tool will be added to our Integrated Water Management Hub and to this page.

If you have any questions or would like to see the tool or final report ahead of publication, please get in touch with the team at ox.cam@environment-agency.gov.uk.
