Zenith Sluice and the surrounding river

For Options Red, Blue, Pink and Orange, we will remove the existing gates and electrical equipment at Zenith Sluice and construct a new rock ramp.

Achieving fish passage when refurbishing river structures is a legal requirement. To achieve fish passage around the large sluice structures at Molember and Island Barn we would use the Old Mole channel which runs via Zenith and Wilderness Sluices. These sluice structures are smaller, making it easier to add fish passes.

Option Purple

We would only carry out reactive maintenance and repairs as the structures gradually fail, and also allow for fish passes to be added in the future. There would be similar levels of plant and animal habitat along and in the river. The water levels would remain similar to the current situation.

Option Red

All existing gates, the electrical equipment and the walkway will be removed to allow for the construction a rock ramp fish pass on the existing structure. There would be no changes in water level upstream of the structure.

Option Blue

All existing gates, electrical equipment and the walkway would be removed. A new rock ramp fish pass would be installed on the existing structure. There would be no change in water level upstream of the structure.

Option Pink

All existing gates, electrical equipment and the walkway would be removed. A new rock ramp fish pass would be installed on the existing structure. There would be no change in water level upstream of the structure.

Option Orange (national economically preferred option)

All existing gates, electrical equipment and the walkway would be removed. A new rock ramp fish pass would be installed on the existing structure. There would be no change in water level upstream of the structure.
