Successful Prosecution Secures Remediation of Birmingham Waste Site

The Environment Agency has successfully concluded legal proceedings against Greener Lifestyle Limited, relating to illegal waste activity at 39 Trent Street, Birmingham.

At Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 14 September 2026, the company pleaded guilty to 3 charges for failing to comply with environmental permit regulations and formal notices to stop waste operations and provide the Environment Agency with information about activities at the site.

The case followed a lengthy investigation into activities at the site. Greener Lifestyle Ltd took occupation of the land in May 2025 and initially operated under registered waste exemptions. However, Environment Agency inspections identified that the company was not complying with the conditions of those exemptions and they were de-registered. Despite this, waste operations continued without the required environmental permit.

The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £11,796.50 and a victim surcharge of £2,000. Greener Lifestyle Limited were also ordered to comply with a Remediation Order to remove all waste within six months from the site in Trent Street, Birmingham.

This successful outcome reflects the Environment Agency’s sustained investigative and enforcement work, which secured the prosecution, financial penalties and remediation order needed to protect the local community and environment.

The company has said it intends to clear the site as quickly as possible and leave the waste industry once the remediation work is complete. We will monitor its compliance with the order

Adam Lines, Area Environment Manager, from the Environment Agency said:

This successful prosecution demonstrates our commitment to tackling illegal waste activity and holding operators to account when they fail to comply.
