Upcoming Maintenance Work

📢 Upcoming Maintenance Work – Mill Dam Dyke, North Scarle

We’d like to let residents and visitors know that there is scheduled maintenance due to start at the end of September.

Maintenance activities to include:

Grass cutting on the embankments
In channel weed cutting
Channel side hedge cutting

Maintenance Benefits:

  • Helps water to move more freely downstream and drain efficiently, enhancing conveyance and helping to maintain high oxygen levels.
  • Helps maintain the stability and profile of the embankments, supports a strong root network that helps hold the soil in place and reduces the risk of erosion.
  • Helps reduce channel obstruction by removing overgrown branches that could cause localised flooding. Hedge cutting can contribute to a clearer channel, allowing for water to pass easily in high water events.

This type of maintenance on Mill Dam Dyke is carried out in September-October to prepare for the winter months ahead, taking into consideration the different wildlife habitats in and around the water course.

Please take care if you’re passing through the area whilst we're working 🚧

Thank you for your patience.
