Storm Henk Flooding
When Storm Henk arrived in the UK on 2 January 2024 it was the eighth named storm of the 2023/24 season. Although relatively modest in accumulation, the rain fell onto already saturated catchments and elevated rivers, causing widespread flooding in communities across the East Midlands. Record river levels were recorded on the River Soar and River Wreake gauges in Leicestershire as well as on the River Trent at Torksey
During the winter of 2023/24 there were no failures or overtopping reported or observed on Environment Agency Assets along Mill Dam Dyke.
Storm Babet Flooding
During 18 - 21 October 2023 Storm Babet tracked across the United Kingdom, leaving a trail of destruction and disruption in its wake. Catchments in the East Midlands bore the brunt of the Storm's impact resulting in record-breaking rainfall and river levels at gauging stations. Widespread flooding was recorded across hundreds of communities in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire in the worst flooding experienced in the East Midlands since 1947.
