Nene Water Management Strategy Project Update

Due to funding pressures over the last financial year, some of the outputs of the Nene Water Management Strategy have been slightly revised. However, the aim of Strategy has not changed - to provide clear, sustainable direction to manage the River Nene for the next 100 years.
We have been busy conducting hydraulic modelling at eight asset sets for high and low flow scenarios. These are: Orton; Alwalton; Wansford; Elton; Titchmarsh; Upper/Lower Ringstead; Ditchford/Broadholme; and White Mills. Two further locations (Castor and Broadreach weir) have already been modelled as trial sites.
Modelling work is expected to be completed in January 2026, after which external consultations and data licensing considerations will follow. Alongside the modelling, a benefits exercise is being carried out to assess the value of each asset based on its role and impact.
