Garforth Flood Risk Community Workshop and Forum

How can we get ready for more rain?

Extreme weather is happening more often, and the warning signs of climate change are clear. Warmer temperatures are already leading to more intense rainfall—and sadly, more devastating floods. Garforth has already seen the impact—homes, businesses and roads have all been affected by surface water flooding.

That’s why the Environment Agency and Leeds City Council have invited Garforth residents and businesses to take part in Garforth Future Flood Risk Workshop and Forum. This is our chance to help shape Garforth’s future and share ideas on how we can make Garforth better prepared for flooding.

Please note that applications to the Garforth Future Flood Risk Forum are now closed.

The Garforth Future Flood Risk Forum

We asked a group of local people to join the Flood Risk Forum to help Garforth prepare for future flooding and share ideas on making the town stronger and safer.

The forum is meeting four times between February and June 2026 to explore different ways to reduce the risk of flooding in Garforth and how any measures may impact the people who live there.

The group is being supported by experts from the Environment Agency, Leeds City Council, and engineering company Arup.

Once the workshops are completed, the forum's thoughts and recommendations will be presented to a larger community meeting for feedback. The ideas will also be shared with Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Water and the West Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
