Do nothing to the Lower Mole Scheme - Option Yellow
A map of the scheme for this option.
We would not carry out any work or maintenance to any structures or along the river channels. With this option, all gates would not be operated and remain closed in high flow events, which would result in flooding. Due to a lack of maintenance, the gates would eventually fail. The failure of the gates in an open position would result in a reduction in water levels throughout the scheme, this would allow the river to flow more naturally and would expect increases to plant and animal habitat along and in the river.
Whilst this option has no costs associated with it, the costs of any damage caused if the assets were to fail or if the gates were not operated and remained shut in high flow events and flooding occurred in the future would be very high.
We retain this option on the shortlist as it is a requirement of the appraisal process and sets the baseline to compare the other options against.
