Salmons Brook River Restoration – planned for the future
Enfield Council plan to restore 3.3km of Salmons Brook between Stagg Hill and Hadley Road. These plans will see the river restored to a natural state and reconnected to its floodplain. Flood water from the river will then be kept in the floodplain, reducing the water in the river coming into Edmonton.
This project has the potential to reduce flood risk for roughly 2,000 downstream properties, as well as creating new riparian, wetland and woodland habitats.
Enfield Chase Restoration Project
Ongoing: Planting woodlands and creation of 50+ Rural SuDS
Albany Park Wetlands
Completed: Formalised a wetland and diverted a surface water sewer
Monken Hadley Common FAS
Completed: Created a wet woodland and flood storage area within Monken Hadley Common
Green Lanes Rain Gardens
Completed: Installed 19 rain gardens along Green Lanes, creating more water storage capacity. Rain gardens reduce flood risk to properties and the local road network. A key transport link in Enfield.

Hazelwood School SuDS
Completed: Rain Gardens and flood storage area within playground
Hoe Lane SuDS
Completed: Turned grass verges into detention basins to take runoff from the road
Albany Park River Restoration
Completed: Restored 400m of the Turkey Brook by rerouting it through Albany Park and creating a flood storage area of approximately 50,000m3.
The project significantly reduced flood risk for around 300-400 nearby properties and now provides high quality habitat for birds, fish, butterflies and a wide range of other wildlife, transforming the parks into a richer and more resilient natural environment.
